The Blantyre Senior Resident Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced a 21-year-old man to six years imprisonment with hard labor for having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.

Soche Police Station Prosecution Officer, Sub-Inspector Martin Thulu, said the convict, a few days ago, coaxed the victim not to report for classes and later took her to his house, where he abused her.

The prosecutor said the ordeal came to light on Monday as the girl’s teacher quizzed the mother of the victim about her absence in class, which prompted the mother to probe the issue and discover the incident.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for the court’s mercy, saying he is young and a first-time offender.

Senior Resident Magistrate Hadja Maiden then went on to sentence the convict to six years in imprisonment.
