Well-known social media influencer Onjezani Stanly Kenani has raised money amounting to MK14,150,950 to support veteran musician Sir Paul Banda who is suffering from kidney failure, faceofmalawi can reveal.
Kenani launched the initiative on Monday last week, just days after the burial of Lucius Banda who was a sole pillar to Paul Banda.
Writing on his official facebook page after crossing the fundraising Kenani hailed Malawians for the financial support.
“And so the Sir Paul Banda Initiative has come to an end. We received K14,150,950 in total. We will hand over this money to Sir Paul Banda tomorrow at 10 a.m.
“Profound thanks to all those who contributed their hard-earned money to help our legend. One man, from Rumphi, sent me K750 and said, “That is all I can manage, but I’m deeply touched.” Another, from Lilongwe, sent us K1 million and requested to remain anonymous. We were deeply grateful to every single contributor no matter the amount,” wrote Kenani.
He added: “My deepest gratitude also to Ms. Pilirani Semu, who broached the idea on her social media pages, as well as Mr. Raphael Kamoto for working hard behind the scenes to lobby his network of friends who weighed in massively. Finally, to my younger brother, Mr. Blasto Kenani, for accepting to use his mobile money accounts to collect donations.
“I kindly asked audit firms to volunteer to have a quick look at my bank statements and the mobile money accounts to give the public assurance that we have handed over all the money you donated through me. Unfortunately, no audit firm has come forward to offer services on a voluntary basis. Nonetheless, the offer remains.”
