In the ongoing extradition case of Shepherd Bushiri and Mary Bushiri, Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza is set to continue proceedings this morning.
Today’s session will focus on the conclusion of the cross-examination of Sibongile Mzinyathi, the Director of Public Prosecutions for Gauteng province, who is testifying on behalf of the state.
On Wednesday, during the cross-examination, it came to light that the rape cases previously brought against Bushiri had been withdrawn.
Defence attorney Wapona Kita highlighted to the court that all four women who had accused Bushiri of rape had retracted their allegations in 2018. This development is a significant element of the defence’s strategy in challenging the extradition request.
Meanwhile, state lawyer Dzikondianthu Malunda reported that the case is progressing well, with expectations for the re-examination to be completed by Friday.
Malunda remains optimistic about the continued advancement of the legal proceedings.
