Two individuals have been apprehended at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka Zambia for falsely presenting themselves as medical doctors.

The suspects are Amon Muchosa, a Zimbabwean national who claimed to be a sixth-year medical student at the University of Zambia, and Chibwe Kansumba, an Environmental Health Officer and employee of Bharat Serum Vaccine Limited.

Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, says the duo operated from UTH and engaged in prescribing pre-authorization services and drugs to individuals covered by the National Health Insurance Management Scheme (NHIMA).

NHIMA’s inquiry into UTH management led to the identification of the suspects as masquerading medical doctors.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday following a report from Dr. Prince Kanyinda at UTH.

The suspects had been conducting their activities since 2017 until July 16, 2024.
