In a tragic incident on the Salima-Nkhotakota M5 Road at Chisaka Village, a woman lost her life and several others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in overturned.
The deceased, Mwayi Mlamba, aged 40 and from Phanga Village, T/A Kabudula in Lilongwe, was identified by Nkhotakota police publicist Paul Mwalimwe.
The accident occurred around 7 pm when Mavuto Kapesi, driving a 10-tonne Hino Ranger lorry with registration number ZA 2403, was transporting nine passengers from Nkhotakota to Salima.
According to reports, Kapesi failed to engage the gear near Chisaka Village, causing the vehicle to reverse and overturn.
Mlamba suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nkhotakota District Hospital, while the injured passengers received treatment at Alinafe Mission Hospital.
