Audio engineer Peter Mbedza is appearing before the court in Lilongwe after being arrested earlier this week in Blantyre.

Mbedza was arrested on suspicion of his involvement in producing Bakili Muluzi TV content that has circulated widely on social media platforms.

He faces charges related to the publication of news likely to cause fear and public alarm, as well as cyber spamming, under Section 91 of the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act of 2016.

As of now, his lawyers are requesting bail, but the state is opposing the decision, arguing that Mbedza should remain in custody for seven to two (7) days until they release their report, as 80 percent of the investigation has already been completed.
