Malawi Electoral Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially declared MCP candidate, Stewart Mwase and Maxwell Chipiliro Phiri, an independent candidate, as winners of the local government by-elections for Mwasa Ward in Mangochi and Chilaweni Ward in Blantyre respectively.
MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, has made the announcement at HHI Hall in Blantyre, which is the main tally centre for the by-elections conducted on Tuesday, 23 July, 2024.
The two have now officially become councillors for the two wards.
According to Mtalimanja, the newly elected Councillors together with other councilors will be in their offices up to July 2025.
