Police at Lingadzi in Lilongwe have a 51-year-old security guard who works for Loma Security Company for allegedly being involved in a darling break-up at the National Registration Bureau (NRB) warehouse.

Public Relations Officer for Lingadzi Police Station, Cassim Manda has confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect, Khongo Mtengatenga.

According to Manda, is indicating that the incident occurred on July 20th, 2024 when Mtengatenga who hails from Kalonga village, Traditional Authority Kalumbu in Lilongwe district allegedly gained unauthorized access to the warehouse through the ceiling, making off with millions of Kwacha worth of property.

“He was assigned to guard the NRB premises after being provided with quarters within the compound but his tenure was marked by deceit, as he allegedly exploited his position to orchestrate the audacious heist,” Manda said.

Meanwhile, Manda has indicated that the exact value of the stolen items is yet to be determined, as police await the assessment of officials from the bureau.

“Meanwhile the station has made significant recoveries, including seven laptops, two laptop bags, four solar panels, and two power cables, all bearing the official logo of NRB,” he revealed.

The suspect is expected to appear in court to face charges related to the break-in and theft.
