Defense lawyer representing Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, Wapona Kita has expressed satisfaction with the case proceedings so far.

In an interview on Wednesday in Lilongwe, he stated that they are expecting more to come out of the re-examination.

” In my personal opinion it has further weakened their case. There were concessions made that the original copies had initials, while the scanned copies did not, indicating they do not possess the original copies,” Kita said.

Senior State Advocate, Dzikondianthu Malunda expressed satisfaction with the case’s progress.

“We are happy with the progress and the proper direction towards a final ruling and that they are confident in their ability to analyze the issues in writing and trust the court to take the necessary time to review the submissions and arguments,” he said.

On August 19, 2024, the defense will file their submission arguments, likely arguing that Bushiri should be extradited to the Republic of South Africa.

On September 30, 2024, the state will respond to the defense’s submission. Following this, the defense will have seven days to address any points of contention.

The Court has promised to deliver its ruling within 60 days after all submissions are complete.
