Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko has urged newly graduated students from Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) to be innovate and not to wait for employment.

Mdooko was speaking at the graduation ceremony of 500 MIT students in Blantyre where students received diplomas and certificates in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

In her speech Mdooko urged graduates not wait for employment but rather venture into entrepreneurship and employ others.

“To you newly graduating students, go to the world and prove yourself that you are capable of helping the government in developing this country by venturing into entrepreneurship. Time of waiting for employment is over,” said Mdooko.

MIT Board Chairperson Vincent Chilinda said the institution is committed to contributing to the nation’s human resources, pivotal to our economic growth.

“This human resource is capable to perform any duty and to the excellence,” said Chilinda.

He however, appealed for the support from the government if the institution is to continue offering good services to the country.

The event attracted various stakeholders, including government officials and representatives from the private sector.

Deputy Mayor of the City of Blantyre Isaac Jomo Osman also graced the event.
