Police at Chitipi in Lilongwe have recovered 248 bags of maize worth K9.9 million that were stolen at a certain farm in Mpingu, after criminals attacked warehouse watchmen on 24 July 2024.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastinga Chigalu said they have since arrested four suspects in connection to the breaking and theft, while twelve others are still on the run.
The suspects have been identified as Lonjezo Landirani, 23, Geofrey James, 30, Lemison Cheza, 24, and Ahmad Wasili, 49,
On the said date at around 22:00 hours the suspects, who were in a group of 18 criminals, invaded the farm where they tied watchmen, before breaking into a warehouse and went away with 248 bags of the staple grain, each weighing 50 kilograms.
Immediately, detectives launched investigations that successfully led to the arrest of the suspects on Monday, 29 July 22024 and the subsequent recovery of all the stolen bags of the grain at a certain company within the capital city where it was sold.
The four suspects will appear in court soon to answer a case of Breaking and Theft, while manhunt for the remaining 12 suspects is still underway.
Lonjezo Landirani and Geofrey James come from Chiudza Village , Traditional Authority (T/A) M’bwatalika, Lilongwe, Lemison Cheza hails from Chilenga Village, T/A Msakambewa, Dowa, and Ahmad Wasili is from Kapoloma Village, T/A Kapoloma in Machinga District.
