The United Independent Party (UIP), President Helen Singh has appointed Chrissy Tembo as her running mate in the forthcoming elections scheduled for May 20.

The two were seen together when they were presenting the nomination papers to Electoral Officials on Monday in Blantyre.

Tembo a business Lady comes from Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba.

In her speech after presenting the papers which started with Muslim and Christian slogans of Hallelujah and Asalam Alaikum, Singh expressed optimism that she is the chosen one.

Singh is not the first woman to contest as a President as in the 2009 elections, Loveness Gondwe, did the same but performed poorly.

Meanwhile, these elections are expected to see two women appearing on the ballot with President Joyce Banda as well contesting on a Peoples’ Party (PP) ticket.
