Police at Chileka in Blantyre have arrested a 24 year-old man for allegedly stealing a gun at the Escom Guliver Kameza facility.

Spokesperson for Chileka Police, Jonathan Philipo has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Johnstone Khuleya.

Face of Malawi has learned that, Escom security officials lodged a complaint that robbers stole a shotgun, serial No: 108161, during the night of August 3, at the Guliver Kameza facility.

According to Philipo, Police initiated an intelligence-driven investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the shotgun with an empty cartridge, which was later identified by the complainant.

However, it is reported that the suspect has mental health issues as he acts crazy sometimes and even cutting himself for several times.

Khuleya will appear in court soon to answer the charges leveled against him.
