The Florida student who went viral for beating his teacher unconscious has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

The student identified as Brendan Depa, a 6 feet, 6-inch, 270-pound teen, beat his teacher Joan Naydich for taking his Nintendo.

However, Depa’s mother is blaming the “system” for failing him.

“He’s not a thug that was just out there and didn’t have parents who cared. It was the system that failed him, that he was placed in public school, and that once he was in there, the IEP was not followed,” Leanne Depa said.

“People who should have known better than to use his Nintendo Switch, which was his trigger, as a motivator.”

Depa has been sentenced to five years in prison followed by 15 years on probation as it is reported that he was in a special needs program that’s is why court lessened his sentence.
