Bon Kalindo has urged protesters in Blantyre to maintain peace as they begin their march from Kamuzu Upper Stadium to the district commissioner’s office.

The demonstrations are aimed at addressing issues such as political arrests, the National Registration Bureau’s (NRB) failure to issue IDs fairly, and advocating for alternative forms of identification in the 2025 elections.

Kalindo emphasized the need for calm during the protests, which are set to highlight concerns over the current ID issuance process and electoral reforms.

Blantyre is experiencing a relatively quiet atmosphere with reduced traffic as the protests get underway.

A key focus of the demonstrations is to pressure the Malawi Electoral Commission to accept other forms of identification besides the National ID for the upcoming polls.
