The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Michael Usi, returned today from Rwanda, where he represented His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera at the inauguration of President Paul Kagame.

The ceremony took place yesterday, 11th August, in the capital, Kigali.

In brief remarks to journalists at Kamuzu International Airport upon his arrival, the Vice President expressed gratitude to President Chakwera for the honor of representing him in Rwanda. He noted that, in addition to attending President Kagame’s inauguration, the visit provided an opportunity to engage with Malawians based in Rwanda on various important issues, including remittances and investing back home.

Dr. Usi admired the strong sense of patriotism among the Rwandan people, stating that if Malawians could emulate this, it would greatly benefit the country, particularly if aligned with the Malawi 2063 Vision and the ATM agenda. “As Malawians, we need to be positive and love our country instead of constantly focusing on the negative,” the Vice President emphasized.

He also mentioned that there are 11 areas where Malawi and Rwanda are expected to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in the near future, possibly in Kigali.
