Three teachers at Kasapa Secondary School in North-Western Province in Zambia have been arrested for illegal possession of Grade 12 General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination materials.
The trio have been implicated in securing keys to the school’s Strong Room and retrieving answer sheets for prior written examination papers to aid learners in changing their submitted answers.
On 8th August 2024, between 20:00 and 22:00 hours, officers at St. Dorothy Police Station received a tip-off from a member of the public regarding possible examination malpractice at Kasapa Secondary School.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, stated that the information indicated some teachers had unlawfully accessed already completed answer booklets from the school’s Strong Room and were displaying them to a select group of learners.
Hamoonga says officers who went to the school found about 20 learners gathered at a teacher’s residence, being shown answers for the 2024 Grade 12 GCE Biology Papers 1 and 2, as well as Mathematics Papers 1 and 2.
He says the instructor has been named as 38-year-old Teddy Mulenga, a senior teacher at Kasapa Secondary School.
Hamoonga says the other teachers involved are 42-year-old Mary Luhanna and 43-year-old Mary Kunda.
