A road accident occurred in Lumbadzi, at Binala village on Sunday night, August 18, when a hit-and-run driver struck and killed an unidentified male pedestrian.

According police, the unknown driver was heading from Lumbadzi to Kanengo along the Lilongwe-Kasungu M1 road when the motor vehicle he was driving hit the pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction, at around 20:00 hours at Binala village.

Lumbadzi Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Felix Kwinyani said the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lumbadzi Health Center.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary for identification.

The police are currently working to trace the driver and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police also remind drivers of their responsibility to render assistance to road accident victims and report incidents to the police.
