Two people have been confirmed dead while one sustained minor injuries after their plane crashed at Benga in Nkhotakota and ditched into Lake Malawi on Tuesday afternoon.

Nkhotakota District Commissioner, Ben Matengeni Tonho, said the two bodies were recovered around 2 AM and were taken to Nkhotakota District Hospital.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, government spokesperson, Moses Kunkuyu said the aircraft, a C210 registration 7QPFU, departed Nkhotakota Tongole airfield at 2 PM and was destined for Liwonde in Machinga, with three people on board.

The plane crash comes barely two months after another plane crash in Chikangawa Forest which claimed the life of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others.

The cause of the plane crash is not yet known at the moment.
