Lilongwe Police has arrested a 34-year-old Pharmacy Assistant at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH), in connection to the stealing and supplying of medical drugs and products that police recovered last week at Lilongwe Main Market from three illegal pharmacy dealers.

The suspect has been identified as Chikumbutso Ngilazi of Mgawa Village, Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje District.

Following seizure of huge quantities of assorted medical drugs, and the subsequent arrest of Hardson Malenga, 65, and his daughter Reginna Stander, 31, detectives went on an intelligence mission to establish the real source of the drugs that were specifically meant to benefit the citizenry in the country’s public hospitals.

This is what led to the arrest of Ngilazi at KCH who has worked at the referral hospital for a total of thirteen years; 12 years as a Laundry Attendant, and one year (currently) as Pharmacy Assistant.

The suspect has since, voluntarily admitted to have been selling Reginna Stander medical drugs such as Panadol, Amoxylin and Buffen, among others, for almost a year now.

Chikumbutso Ngilazi will appear in court soon to answer a case of Theft by Public Servant.
