Following Head Coach Gilbert Chirwa and his assistant, Luckson Nyoni, being suspended last week due to the team’s poor form, Fomo Football Club has appointed Elvis Kafoteka as interim coach.
The club’s General Secretary, Jimmy Maloya, says they have written to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) seeking approval for Kafoteka to coach the team while talks with the executive committee are ongoing.
“We are asking FAM to allow Kafoteka to coach the team, as he doesn’t hold the CAF B licence required for teams playing in the Super League,” Maloya said.
The club hopes that Kafoteka’s experience will help turn the team’s fortunes around. Meanwhile, the executive committee is urgently reviewing potential candidates for a permanent coaching role.
Fomo Football Club has been struggling with consistency throughout the season, and this move is seen as a last-ditch effort to salvage their campaign.
Fans of the club are cautiously optimistic about Kafoteka’s appointment and are hoping for an immediate improvement in performance.
The team currently sits third from the bottom on the league log table and faces relegation, making their upcoming matches crucial.
