Police in Mulanje have arrested a 28 year-old man on suspicion of allegedly robbing Lifo motorcycle for Challie Winford, 18, at Mulanje Mission in Mulanje District.
Public Relations Officer for Mulanje Police Innocent Moses, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Alex Njazi.
According to Moses, Njazi committed the offence on 28 August 2024, at around 18:00 hours at Mulanje Mission.
Moses said that on the same day, a team of officers from Mulanje Police rushed to the scene after receiving a report that the suspect was trying to sell the stolen motorcycle at Seyama Turnoff.
Upon arrival, they found that the community had already apprehended the suspect and was about to set him ablaze. He was rescued and brought to the station for further investigation.
The motorcycle has been recovered and positively identified by the owner. The suspect will appear in court soon after all the paperwork is finalised.
Meanwhile, police in Mulanje are urging all kabaza operators to take extra caution when operating their business to avoid similar incidents and are applauding the Seyama community for apprehending the suspect.
