Police at Chiponde in  Mangochi, have arrested three Mozambican nationals for trafficking six young Malawian men into Mozambique at Matambwe Crossing Check Point, Chiponde area in the district.
Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station Amina Tepani Daudi, has confirmed the development and she has identified the three as Bernard Amidu, 42, Kimu Salim, 39, and Omar Ajiba, 32, all from Lichinga district in Mozambique.
On the day of the incident, Chiponde Border Police officers who were manning the crossing point intercepted the suspects, who were accompanying six Malawian men while using uncharted routes into Mozambique.
After being questioned, the six victims, aged between 19 and 39, revealed that they were being taken from Machinga to Mozambique to do piecework on farms.
The victims have been rescued and sent back to their homes, while the suspects have been charged with trafficking in persons, contrary to Section 14(1) of the Trafficking in Persons Act.
They will appear in court soon to answer to their charges.
