Choma’s Makalanguzu Market chairperson Patrick Chaya has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to intervene and help in the construction of a modern market in the provincial capital.
Commenting on an inferno which burnt 12 trading shelters on Thursday night Chaya said the fire could have been avoided if the market was modernized with proper trading structures.
Chaya says the elected officials in the district should be on top of the agenda of ensuring that the district gets a modern trading area with good sanitary conditions.
He adds that the Southern Provincial capital lacks good trading infrastructure in the central business.
About 12 trading spots at Makalanguzu market which include salons were burnt on Thursday night.
Beatrice Mudenda who whose salon and photocopying centre was burnt down to ashes has since appealed for assistance from well-wishers to help her get back in business.
