Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia has hailed Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leadership for appointing her to the post of the party’s Second Vice President.

MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda announced new positions yesterday during the media briefing in Lilongwe.

The positions are 50 in total who have been filled so far.

Writing on his official facebook page Abida Mia promised to work tirelessly in supporting the vision of the party leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

“I am incredibly honoured and deeply humbled by the trust and confidence the appointing authority, being empowered by the 2024 MCP Convention delegates, has placed in me. My appointment as the 2nd Deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) reasserts our party’s unwavering commitment to the principles of inclusive leadership regardless of gender.

“As I step into this role, I continue to reaffirm my unwavering and unending loyalty and dedication to our President, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, and to our party. Our collective mission remains clear: to work tirelessly and with unity of purpose in assisting our President to renew his Presidential mandate in the coming year,” said Mia.
