The country was left in shock when news broke that a woman in Chipata, Eastern Province, seemingly resurrected from the dead five years after her burial.

The case, reminiscent of the biblical story of Lazarus, bewildered even the police and astonished local residents.

Felopa Mbewe, who had died at 16 in 2019 after taking a poisonous tablet, was buried quickly due to a lack of mortuary facilities.

After her burial, strange occurrences, including disappearing food, led her family to seek spiritual help from Pastor Rueben Kalima, who claimed Felopa was still alive.

Last month, Felopa’s father, Mona Mbewe, confirmed seeing his daughter at the Zambia-Malawi border. He took her back to the village, where she was found in a state of silence.

Police, intrigued by the case, visited the family and interviewed them, but have not yet confirmed the resurrection.

Authorities are now involving a state pathologist to determine whether the woman is indeed Felopa Mbewe.
