Police in Mzimba have arrested 21-year-old Daniel Phiri for allegedly selling diluted cooking oil by mixing it with water and other substances made from fruits.

Maria Banda, the deputy spokesperson for the Mzimba police, stated that Phiri was caught on Thursday while engaged in this illegal trade. Wezzie Tembo, who had purchased the oil, had complained to the police about Phiri’s fraudulent activities.

Phiri admitted to engaging in this practice for two weeks, selling a five-liter bottle of the diluted oil for K15,000, while five liters of genuine oil are sold for K20,000.

Daniel Phiri is from Chanthomba village, under Inkosi Mmbelwa in the Mzimba district.
