Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has described President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s trip to Nsanje and Chikwawa as waste of taxpayer’s money.

Chakwera on Monday went to Chikwawa and Nsanje where he undertook some officials duties and one of it being inspection of A.R Cattle Ranch at Ngabu.

After that,Chakwera commissioned the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) and then had an engagement with business players found in the two districts.

But this did not go down well with Chimbanga who said the President could have delegated the duties to Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale.

“It’s hard to see why President Chakwera needs an army of 200 people to accompany him and 50 vehicles just to visit Nsanje to inspect makhola. Honestly, does he think the animals will be offended if fewer people show up?

“In times like these, when Malawi is really struggling economically, you’d expect the President to act a bit more responsibly. Surely the Minister of Agriculture can handle this without the grand spectacle,” said Chimbanga.

He added: “It’s clear that President Chakwera is insensitive. We simply can’t afford this lavish lifestyle he has now.”

Effort to talk to Minister of Information and Digitization Moses Kunkuyu proved futile.
