Local Contractors under Malawi Building, Civil Engineering and Allied Trade Association (Mabcata) have planned to takeover Kalinyeke and Chingeni tollgates as one of the measures to push for the Roads Fund Administration (RFA) to pay over K50 billion the fund owes them.
The development comes barely days after the local Contractors suspended the vigil they were holding at RFA offices in the capital Lilongwe.
This has been revealed in a letter dated September 10, 2024 addressed to RFA Chief Executive Officer Steward Malata seen by this publication.
According to the letter, the decision follows failure by RFA and Ministry of Transport and Public Works to act on their grievances when they were holding vigils.
The Local Contractors have set September 24, 2024 as the day they will takeover the said tollgates located in Ntcheu and Dowa districts respectively.
Effort to talk to RFA spokesperson Masauko Ngwaluko proved futile.
