As one way of celebrating its 70th anniversary, Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited on September 14, 2024 successfully hosted a golf tournament at Blantyre Sports Club.

The golf tournament was organized with an aim of giving a room to Old Mutual staff to engage with stakeholders in a free environment.

The golfers who were 100 in total braved the scotching sun and competed with their lungs out.

At the end of it all, Paul Araujo emerged an overall winner in the men category registering 7 handicup, 70 Gross scores and 63 net scores.

For emerging as champion, Araujo went away with MK500,000 shopping voucher and a trophy while Evance Songola emerged as runners up after registering 15 handicup, 83 Gross scores and 63 net scores.

He went away with MK300, 000 shopping voucher and a trophy.

In the women category, Maria Tandwe emerged Champion and went away with MK500,000 shopping voucher and a trophy.

Ulemu Luhanga emerged as runners up and went away with MK300, 000.00 shopping voucher and a trophy.

Mr. Tandwe emerged as champion in the senior category after registering 14 handicup, 84 Gross scores and 70 net scores and went away with MK500,000 shopping voucher and a trophy.

Speaking after the ceremony Old Mutual Group Chief Finance Officer Vera Zulu expressed satisfaction with the results.

“Old Mutual is a business that believes in fostering social relationship with our customers and of course promoting healthy lifestyles.

“I am glad the tournament today has lived to its billing where among others it has provided us an opportunity as a business to engage with our customers in an informal setting while celebrating the company’s achievement,” said Zulu.

On his part, Paul Araujo could not hide his excitement for emerging as overall winner in the tournament.

“I thank Old Mutual for organizing this colorful tournament and I also thank my fellow-golfers. They played well and gave me tough time,” he said.

When asked what was his secret Araujo said: “Reduce your mistake in the course, be calm and enjoy the game.”

Concurring with Araujo’s remarks Maria Tandwe who emerged Champion in the women category encouraged new-entries especially from Old Mutual not to be discouraged by the results.

“Don’t be discouraged by the results, we need more ladies in the game,” said Tandwe while smiling.

The company is scheduled to hold another golf tournament on September 21, 2024 in the capital Lilongwe.
