A 34-year-old woman in Zambia has been granted a divorce by the Mazabuka Local Court after she brought her 39-year-old husband to court, citing dissatisfaction in their marriage.

The woman identified as Chipo Monze sued her husband, Joseph Lungu, alleging that he did not love her son from a previous relationship and failed to meet his matrimonial duties. Monze told the court that Lungu had been sexually neglecting her and, on May 18, 2024, had even chased her out of their home.

In his defense, Lungu claimed that Monze changed after starting a job with a company in Mazabuka. He added that she began receiving numerous text messages, which he suspected were from lovers.

Passing judgment, Magistrate Reagent Zandu highlighted the need for transparency and unity in marriage. He reminded the couple that marriage is a lifelong commitment, emphasising that sexual fulfilment is a crucial aspect where neither partner should neglect the other.
