The High Court in Lilongwe is today expected to hear testimony from mobile network provider Airtel Malawi in a case where Rwandan national Gentile Giramata and another individual stand accused of murdering Giramata’s ex-husband, Noel Habimana, in October 2022.
Yesterday, Senior Clinician Andrew Mwale from Kamuzu Central Hospital’s mortuary testified after presiding Judge Bruno Kalemba overruled the defence’s objection, allowing Mwale to take the stand. The defence had argued that he was not the appropriate witness.
In his testimony, Mwale stated that an examination of Habimana’s body showed no signs of injuries consistent with a car accident, contradicting one of the claims surrounding the death.
Giramata and co-accused Rafiq Munyamagaju are charged with poisoning Habimana, but both have denied the accusations. The court continues to hear evidence as the trial progresses.
