United Transformation Movement (UTM) on Sunday took candlelight memorial in honor of late Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima to Luchenza Community Ground in Thyolo.

Speaking at the memorial one of the Presidential aspirants Newton Kambala promised to fulfill all the promises Chilima made to Malawians.

Kambala said Chilima had the welfare of Malawians at heart.

UTM aspiring legislator for Luchenza constituency, Harold Stephen Kaliwo, said the deaths of the nine, including Dr. Chilima, was painful to many Malawians.

The party’s district governor, Isaac Kamboyi, said they are still waiting for the truth on the circumstances of the tragedy in Chikangawa Forest on June 10 this year.

“We believe we will know the truth next year in September after changing this regime,” he said.

Chilima and 8 others died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024 in Chikangawa Forest.
