Former President Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Saturday took swipe at Malawians for kicking him out of power during the fresh 2020 polls.

“You remember what I said in 2018? That evil will rule over this country and Malawi will be held hostage, but you did not listen to me? Mudzapanganso zopusa zimene zija? [Will you repeat that stupidity?],” he said this during a political rally in Mzuzu.

Mutharika went further to criticize Chakwera’s administration for failing to fulfill the campaign promises such as three meals a day, construction of modern Airport at Mzuzu Airport and others.

He then appealed to Malawians to vote for the DPP in the forthcoming 2025 polls.

Mutharika then turned to DPP to officials to remain united ahead of the forthcoming polls.

Before his speech, Mutharika led DPP supporters in a minute of silence in honor of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who died in a plane crash together with 8 others on June 10, 2024.
