Libertas General Insurance Company Limited has pumped in MK1 million towards the painting of three Zebra Crosses located near schools in the commercial capital Blantyre.
The three Zebra Crosses are; the one located at Misesa Primary School in Chigumula, another one at Nansengwe Primary School in Lunzu and the one at Henry Henderson Institute (HHI).
The exercise is slated for September 30, 2024 and will be carried out by Know Your Car (KYC), a grouping which operates mainly on Facebook.
Speaking in an interview after the Cheque presentation the Company’s Sales and Marketing Manager Tisunge Chirwa said the exercise will help in reducing the number of road accidents that happens mainly at Zebra Crossing thereby reducing the number of claims the company processes each passing day.
“Us as Libertas Company we were approached by KYC to sponsor them in painting Zebra Crosses, the one at HHI, another one in Misesa and Nansengwe Primary School in Lunzu.
“Knowing that we are risk managers and we want to mitigate the number of accidents in the country we thought it wise to sponsor someone who has the same interest as ours so sponsoring KYC is one of our initiatives to make sure that we are giving back to the community,” said Chirwa.
Chirwa went further to claim that the country is experiencing a number of accidents due to lack of Zebra Crosses.
According to Chirwa, every day the company is receiving claims from motorists and this is affecting the company heavily.
On his part KYC Coordinator for Southern Region Chapter Mark Mwale hailed Libertas General Insurance Company for the support.
“This Mk1 million will help us in painting those Zebra Crossing and this will reduce in the number of accidents that happens in the said schools. We are very grateful to the company for helping us to achieve our dream,” said Mwale.
Libertas Insurance Company started operating in Malawi in 1996 and then it was called Liberty Genera Insurance Company.
