Lilongwe City Council (LCC), led by the police, has demolished several houses at the Area 47 Sector 5 market last night. According to witnesses of this operation, the buildings belong to a trader known as Mtaba.
The area included a parking lot and a small shop where various goods were sold. One of the security personnel we spoke to said that the owners of the premises had received a notice last year stating that they were occupying land that should not be built on.
They also mentioned that those selling in the market were warned to remove their goods, which they managed to do.
