Jenda Police in Mzimba have arrested 42-year-old Darison Jonazi on suspicion of cutting off six toes from Molala Simwaka, 29.
Jenda Police spokesperson Macfarlane Mseteka has confirmed the arrest and said that Jonazi, a bar owner in Chindoka, Embangweni, was asleep when Simwaka and two companions arrived to buy more beer.
However, Jonazi refused to open, fearing the group might be thieves.
In an attempt to chase them away, Jonazi allegedly attacked Simwaka and severed his toes.
Realizing the severity of the injury, Jonazi later rushed Simwaka to Embangweni Mission Hospital.
Simwaka is currently receiving treatment at Mzimba District Hospital, where he is recovering from the injuries.
