Police have confirmed of the arrest of Daudi Chikwanje, Democratic Progressive Party DPP deputy secretary general and governor for eastern region.
Chikwanje has been arrested over a video where he is heard encouraging DPP supporters to set ablaze anyone seen putting on Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regalia.
In a statement MPS national spokesperson Peter Kalaya said Chikwanje is likely to answer charges bordering on proposing violence.
Kalaya has since warned politicians to desist against making statements that will incite violence ahead of the 2025 polls.
