Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has said the opposition Democratic Progressive party (DPP) is free to hold rallies in central region arguing Malawians are one and should always promote peace.

Chimwendo Banda was indirectly answering a request by former President Peter Mutharika who recently asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to open Central region.

In the media briefing Banda said MCP will not create no-go zones for any party.

The secretary general also stressed that MCP will go to any part of the country including in DPP strongholds.

He said MCP members are Malawians and as such, no one should stop them from accessing any place.

DPP supporters were attacked at Mbowe Filling station in February this year by suspected MCP youths.

But MCP has on several times distanced itself from the fracas.
