Zomba Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced a 29 year-old man to four years in prison after being found guilty of burglary and theft.
State prosecutor Cliff Kalawa identified the convict as Kelvin Kapena who commited the offence on 13 July 2024.
According to Kalawa, on the sated date, the convict and his accomplices who are still at large, broke into the house of Shaminu Sitambuli in Chinamwali, Zomba, during daylight.
The thieves stole an LG Plasma screen and a sound system worth K500,000. Kalawa stated that Kapena initially denied the charges, but after the prosecution presented three witnesses, the court was convinced of his guilt.
Presiding his ruling, magistrate Yohane Munthali handed down the sentence after Kapena pleaded for leniency, arguing that he was the breadwinner of his family but the court rejected his plea.
Kelvin Kapena hails from Lunda village under Traditional Authority M’biza in Zomba district.
