Renowned Malawian filmmaker Shemu Joyah’s latest short film, “Strike A Blow and Die,” has been nominated for Best Short Film at the upcoming Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

The film, which was shot in Neno District and Blantyre, tells the story of Reverend John Chilembwe in the year 1891.

“Strike A Blow and Die” was produced with financial support from the Copyright Society of Malawi through its Cultural Fund.

This is not Joyah’s first AMAA nomination; in 2013, he received five nominations and won the award for Best Sound. The AMAA ceremony will take place in Nigeria this November.

This recognition is another milestone in Joyah’s career, reflecting his consistent storytelling prowess and dedication to showcasing Malawi’s rich history and culture.
