Malawi’s reggae music giants, Black Missionaries band has distanced itself from a song purportedly released by the band attacking President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) reign.
The song which according to the band has gone viral, the singer of the said song mimics the voice of the band lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani.
The song contains strong and scathing lyrics against Chakwera’s leadership.
In the statement seen by this publication, the band has denied releasing the said song.
“The truth of the matter is that the band has not recorded any song to that effect and is equally upset and aggrieved to be associated with the vice.
“We would like to firmly condemn those people behind the production of the alleged song and sternly warn them to desist from associating the Black Missionaries Band with such unspeakable projects, going forward,” reads part of the statement.
The band has since said it remains apolitical.
