A total of seven people are reported dead while five others are in critical condition following a road accident which happened on Monday evening along Chilimba-Magalasi road in Blantyre.

According to information at hand, 20 others who boarded the same vehicle have sustain various degrees of injuries and are admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

QECH Director Dr. Kelvin Mponda confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mponda, the accident involved 40 people who were coming from Kamuzu Stadium to receive maize which the government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is distributing to people affected by hunger across the country.

Ndirande Police Spokesperson Maxwell Jailos has also confirmed of the development in a separate interview with this publication.

It is said the vehicle developed break-failure and this caused the driver of the lorry to loss control of the vehicle before overturning several times.
