As the tee off of this year’s Presidential Charity Golf Tournament is drawing near, Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited has pumped in Mk10 million towards the event.
The two days tournament will take place at Limbe Country Club from October 11-12 and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is scheduled to grace and take part in the tournament.
Speaking after presenting the Cheque Old Mutual Group Chief Financial Officer Vera Zulu said the Presidential Charity golf tournament aligns with the company’s philosophy of being ‘a certain friend in uncertain times’.
“Since its inception, we have seen underprivileged students in public universities being supported, and communities that were affected by natural disasters including Cyclone Freddy being uplifted Therefore, as a responsible business, we are proud to be associated with initiatives that uplift our communities.
“We believe that Malawi’s development rests on the well-being of its people, including the vulnerable,” said Zulu.
She added: “Education has always been at the core of Old Mutual’s Sustainability programs. We are passionate about supporting initiatives that empower young Malawians through Secondary School Bursary, supporting The Old Mutual Mathematics Olympiad which is an annual Mathematics competition we run in collaboration with the Mzuzu University. Additionally, we are supporting the school infrastructure improvement program where we are supporting the construction of school blocks in primary schools across Malawi.
“We see our support in education as not just an investment in the sector, but as an investment in Malawi’s future leaders, innovators, and professionals.”
Trustee for the Presidential Golf Tournament Sophie Mlumbe hailed Old Mutual for the timely donation.
Proceeds of Golf Tournament will be channeled towards assisting University students who are in need of support and people affected by various natural disasters in the country such as floods, drought and hunger.
