Ninety-three illegal immigrants have been ejected from the country by the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office.
They were deported on 9th October 2024 and include 80 Burundians, 11 Tanzanians, a Rwandese, and a Ugandan national.
Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, noted that the majority of those removed were apprehended during recent countrywide clean-up operations aimed at addressing the influx of illegal immigrants.
Nshinka stated that the Lusaka exercise brought the number of illegal immigrants removed between 7th and 9th October 2024 to 155.
Meanwhile, the Luanshya Magistrate Court on 7th October 2024 convicted a 24-year-old Congolese refugee based at Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement.
Daniel Nsamba Yesu was charged with being found outside a refugee settlement without a gate pass and engaging in business without a permit.
In the first count, Yesu was sentenced to a fine of K27,000 or nine months simple imprisonment, and in the second count, he was fined K30,000 or nine months simple imprisonment for engaging in business without a permit.
