Five people have tragically lost their lives, and an unspecified number have been injured following a three-vehicle collision that occurred last night near Kanengo, along the Lilongwe-Kasungu road.
Spokesperson for Kanengo Police Gresham Ngwira, confirmed that the accident happened when a truck, driven by Kondwani Mmangeni, was traveling from Lumbadzi toward Kanengo. As the driver attempted to overtake another truck near the maize storage area in Kanengo, his vehicle collided with two oncoming lorries from the opposite direction.
As a result of the crash, five passengers from one of the lorries sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital. Several other individuals sustained various injuries, although the exact number is still unknown.
“The involved vehicles were heavily damaged due to the impact,” added Ngwira. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
