President of the Republic of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, has arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport for a three-day state visit from Thursday, 17th to 19th October 2024.

The visit follows an invitation by Malawi’s President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, to the Indian leader.

During her stay, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with President Chakwera, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Friday, 18th October 2024, President Chakwera will host a State Banquet at Kamuzu Palace in honor of Her Excellency President Murmu.

The visit also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malawi and India.

President Murmu is on a historic three-nation visit to Africa, having already visited Algeria and Mauritania, with Malawi being the final destination. This visit marks the first-ever by an Indian Head of State to these African nations.

During the visit, President Murmu is expected to engage with industrial leaders, the Indian diaspora, and visit sites of cultural and historical significance.

Additionally, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on youth affairs, sports, and culture are expected to be signed between the two countries.

Upon arrival, President Murmu was welcomed by Vice President Dr. Michael Bizwick Usi, Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba, Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda Kandodo, Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Sidik Mia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo, Minister of Lands Deus Gumba, and other senior government officials.
