The United Transformation Movement (UTM) has announced that it will hold its major conference in Mzuzu on November 17 of this year.

In a statement released and signed by the party’s spokesperson, Felix Njawala, it was revealed that there are 48 positions available for individuals to contest during the conference.

At this event, the party will also present the UTM manifesto and revise its party rules, as well as elect a leader to represent the party in the upcoming elections next year.

Candidates vying for the party leader position are required to pay a registration fee of K20 million, while those contesting for the deputy leader position must submit K10 million, and the party secretary must pay K5 million. Other positions have registration fees ranging from K2.5 million to K1.5 million.

Young people and women are being encouraged to participate in the elections, and they will only need to pay half of the registration fees (50 percent) to qualify for the positions.

So far, other political parties, including the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), People’s Party (PP), and others, have already held their elective conference.
