A 49-year-old police officer, identified as Dickson Wyson, from Kaudzu Village, under Traditional Authority Sitola in the Machinga District, tragically lost his life following a hit-and-run accident on Sunday.
The incident took place at Area 30 Main Gate along Kamuzu Procession Road.
According to a statement released by the police, Officer Wyson was crossing Kamuzu Procession Road from the Pteroda Filling Station side, heading towards Area 30. He was struck by an unidentified vehicle, which fled the scene without stopping.
As a result of the collision, the officer sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures across his body. He was immediately rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away while receiving medical treatment.
Investigations into the hit-and-run are ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information about the vehicle involved to come forward.
