Police in Likoma have arrested 23-year-old Agnes Msadala, a Mozambican, for allegedly taking part in the killing of a six-year-old girl at Mbamba in the district.

Enala Kalua, Public Relations Officer for Likoma Police, said the incident began when the girl’s mother sent her to borrow a knife from a neighbour. The child returned home but later left the house unnoticed.

“At around 7:00 PM, the mother assumed her daughter had gone out with the neighbour [Msadala] but the neighbour denied any knowledge of the child’s whereabouts when asked,” said Kalua.

A search of the suspect’s house uncovered a wet mattress with blood hidden on the roof.

Msadala has been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

Meanwhile, police are intensifying their investigation to arrest anyone involved in the killing of the young girl.
